Dubai, the new city of Arabia, is transported back 100 million years into the prehistoric kingdom of the dinosaurs. It features the latest in scientific research and state-of-the-art electronics to bring these creatures that time forgot back to life.

The city of Dubai, has come up with another eye catching development to add to their burgeoning tourist offering. It comes in the form of a new Jurassic theme park called Restless Planet.

Restless Planet brings the prehistoric world back to life with unique electronic media and offers a unique natural history experience. It contains over 100 robotic dinosaurs that will follow guests with their eyes and occasionally lunge at them.

The park’s rides will be designed to portray the environment in which the dinosaurs lived during the Triassic and Jurassic periods. One of the rides will show a shallow sea with prehistoric fish, recreating the sea world that once covered the Gulf region, millions of years ago.

Dubai will become the home of animatronic dinosaurs, resembling some 40 species of extinct creatures. Upon completion in late 2008, over 100 dinosaurs will be on display in prehistoric habitats. The project is being created with help from The Natural History Museum in London and prominent palaeontologists.

The 11 acre park will be a central feature to the glitzy City of Arabia, and will provide education along with thrills. The robots are being created by the Kokoro Company in Japan and will have "life-like" motions and be able to track visitors with their eyes and heads.

The creatures are so advanced that their breath will stink and they will react to visitors’ movements and even their clothing colour. The pterodactyls are designed to swoop, huge amphibians will power through lakes and herds of diplodocus are all set to roam the landscape.

Mack Rides and Huss are the two world known experts in theme park rides and they will be creating the rides which are will unique only to Restless Planet. First of its kind in the world, will respond to breaking dinosaur discoveries through an ongoing programme of exhibits, announcements and events.

Restless Planet will combine breathtaking theme park experiences, enhanced by dramatic lighting and audiovisual effects, with cutting-edge educational content. Restless Planet's animatronic dinosaurs have been created by combining the latest scientific research and cutting edge design.

Dinosaur Theme Park

The 500,000 square foot park, part of the Dh7.2 billion City of Arabia project, will contain life-like dinosaurs and exhibits of real fossil discoveries.

The City of Arabia project, occupying a site measuring 20 million square feet at Dubailand, will feature arguably the world's largest shopping complex, Mall of Arabia; apartments for more than 35,000 residents and office workers; and a waterway lined with shops, cafes and restaurants in a development called Wadi Walk.

The park's rides will be designed to portray the environment in which the dinosaurs lived during the Triassic and Jurassic periods.

Visitors will experience the birth of the planet, with cosmic events like comet strikes, the tearing away of the moon from the earth, volcanoes, the moving of tectonic plates, and the formation of the mountains and the seas.
